Ring cameras do not speak to the LAN. Every local port is closed. Video goes to Amazon and comes back if the account — and every hub in the location — is happy. One lighting bridge knocked offline by a Powerwall install hung the whole Ring house. The MQTT bridge sat waiting for hubs. That is the product.

Decision: Reolink where the stream lives on the wire. Frigate as the NVR — person, car, recordings, into HA without Amazon. A delivery is a person at the driveway and the front door, not a cloud clip. If a stream wedges, the Reolink path still notifies. Remaining Ring stays in the Ring app until that box is a Reolink. Do not hang a cloud bridge off a local NVR.

What it bought: the cameras still work when Amazon, or one dead hub, does not.

The Wi-Fi box sits on the wall in the middle of the patio. The antenna built into it is directional: a cone. More power, one direction. From the center of that wall, one side of the patio got a fat signal. The other side sat in a hole.

I wanted both sides. In June 2026 I screwed on the weaker omnidirectional antennas — the ones that spray in a ring, not a beam. Less range on the spec sheet. Coverage that matches a space you walk around.

One catch: the fastest band, 6 GHz, does not follow those extra antennas. It stays on the internal cone. Face the box toward the seats that care. Keep it upright so the ring is wide and flat.

I traded a bigger number for a patio that works on both sides of the wall.

A leak alert on a phone is not a shutoff. Floor sensors could scream and the line would keep running. Away most weeks. The old stack was notify-only. That is a house you hope someone is in.

Titan sits on the main. Its own probe closes the valve with no Home Assistant. Power dies, it fails closed — watched it do that on a breaker trip. HA only adds policy: a garage leak always, the rest of the house only when away, a flow meter if a burst stays stupid-high. After it closes, it stays closed until a person opens it.

Solved means water can stop when the house is empty. Not that the include worked.
